People actually request Be Faithful (that's the Faith Evans track) by name at a few of the joints I play at.I don't mind it.no different than playing any other banger. Always a good excuse to cut the music on the 'CAN I GET A WOO WOO' and there's so many different mix points to get out of it into something different. Mix out into black sheep, or Naughty By Nature, or the original Love Like This track, or DJ Scooter's Could You Be Loved Like This (Bob Marley vs. Faith Evans) or a billion other tracks to make it different every time.To me, the fun is in being creative with a track that isn't your favorite so that you don't mind playing it. I like a good party break to break up the monotony of the night. Lets face it, if u doing anytype of urban style club that follows anything mainstream, u gotta break a few out here and there.
I don't mind it, I agree with yall when u say u gotta keep it to a min, original joints are always better than remixes when freakeed right. I much rather fuck with my own version of party breaks than use the same ol same ol. Its all bout originality if u really wanna make an impact in the clubs. I tihnk song selection is more important than skillz factor as of late, at least here in ny. Quote:its the same annoying as the mix I heard every dj do now.
The ray charles 'i gotta woman' song into the golddigger track.Once I heard more than one person do that mix I decided it was wack ha ha.there is no question shit like that is cheesy. Smart idea maybe once or twice, but these djs think that shit is original 2 months into everyone else in the world doing it. What bout playin jump on the line (H. Belfante) before shake (Ying Yang) or London Bridge is Falling Down before London Bridges, booo. U think folks could come with something fresher than that. I agree with Michael Basic and others, if the people ask for it, then why not. Plus, different crowds require different music.
Some of you don't realize that some of us play all types of events with all types of people, not just for 'hip hop heads' or 'purists' or whatever you wish to call your crowd. Party breaks are just a tool for DJs and like any tool, it can be misused or used too often.DJ Blisk, (not trying to be rude) perhaps you need to go to other clubs or places that cater more to your style of music.
I've been to plenty of clubs and bars that play more underground or not so commercial hip hop, like in Hollywood and Downtown LA. Just a suggestion. But I will tell you that those places tend to be a sausage fest with the few chicks (that are there) being not as hot as the places that play all of those party breaks that you hate so much. Just a thought. Quote:I agree with Michael Basic and others, if the people ask for it, then why not. Plus, different crowds require different music. Just a thought. I personally like a few of them, I think if you play them over 1 min then you have bored the crowd. Faith Evans joint is the only AV8 type track you can get by with playing for about 2 mins.
There are plenty of DJs that kill the crowd in their LOCAL cities and TOWNS because the crowd has come conditioned to the way her or she plays. I have heard plenty of top ranked DJs come to diffrent cities and you can almost see the panic in their eyes when they are playing WHAT THEY THINK are hot songs and no one is dancing and they turn back to old 'faithful', excuse the pun.All in all DO you, don't read these threads and tailor your craft to what these other DJs do or what they prefer.
I would love to DJ all oldschool hip hop all night, but is that what the crowd wants to hear? There are for a fact atleast 2 DJs on this forum that have made AV8s and Party Breaks, Im not kissing ass or whatever, but like I said before I like them, the crowd likes them, old fat people like them so Im gonna keep on playing them. Matter fact Im playing one right now.lol.
